When Your WAIT Becomes Your WEIGHT
While on this journey of writing and publishing My New Normal I have been blessed to form friendships with a few beautiful women walking a similar path.
I am super excited to introduce you to one of those friends!
I met Amy at a women’s retreat last year and bonded with her, over hours of conversation at a kitchen table, at the close of the event’s first evening. During our talk I learned that she too was in the process of writing a book.
Today her book is a reality and the words on it's pages are filled with Amy’s encouraging heart, and God’s direction and love as He asks for our patience and trust.
So grab a cup of your favorite tea, settle in, and listen as Amy shares her story with us.
And then be sure to scoop up your own copy of her encouraging book!
At the beginning of When Your WAIT Becomes Your WEIGHT you encourage your reader to be ‘an ordinary individual willing to walk with an extraordinary God’. What did that process of trust look like for you as you wrote this book?
Honestly, as I wrote that line, I was reminded of the time when Peter and John were approached by the Sadducees and other leaders while they were speaking to people about the Lord. They were proclaiming that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus. Many who heard their message believed. The verse that came to my mind was Acts 4:13 which says, “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” Ever since I learned of that verse, the word “ordinary” has stood out to me. God uses ordinary people in this life to reveal His glory. He doesn’t need to use people with fame, fortune or status. He simply wants hearts that are willing to trust Him enough to be bold and unashamed of the gospel. God uses ordinary people to show His extraordinary powers and reveal His extraordinary truths. How remarkable! Trusting God is being willing to use the gifts and talents He’s given each of us for His glory, whether others like it or not. I love that this verse says the people were astonished by their courage. It wasn’t their knowledge of Jesus that amazed them, it was their courage in Jesus that amazed them. Courage represents trust, and there’s no better person to trust than Jesus Christ. He is mighty to save.
How has your own faith in God's timing grown during the process of writing?
I have had to learn to “practice what I preach.” I believe waiting will be a challenge for all of us to one degree or another while we live here on earth. Our human nature wants answers and we want them—NOW! But what has helped me the most in writing this book is being reminded of what I’m really waiting for. As Christians, we’re ultimately waiting for the same thing…to meet Jesus face-to-face. Though my humanness will always crave answers quickly, I’m learning to become desperate for God Himself more than being desperate for His answers. As Hebrews 9:28 says, “Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.” My faith continues to grow as I remember that I’m waiting for Someone rather than something. That gives me great joy, peace and hope as I wait upon the Lord.
What was the writing process like for you?
The writing process was a conglomeration of so many words. It was exciting, fun, stressful, challenging, time-consuming, and even overwhelming at times. But ultimately, I would say it was fulfilling. I say that because ever since the very first day of writing this book, I knew in my heart that this was an assignment from God. I wasn’t exactly sure why He wanted me to write this book but God has reminded me over time that He doesn’t owe me an explanation for His will and His ways. Sometimes the “unknowns” like that cause doubt to sink into my mind. Thankfully, I understand that doubt is not from God. Doubt comes from Satan. I didn’t want to give Satan a foothold so he could start distracting me from being obedient to the Lord’s calling. I simply knew that I wanted to trust God and be willing to sacrifice whatever I needed to complete the work He had set before me. I wanted to receive the assignment from Him, and ultimately release the assignment back to Him, upon completion, thanking and praising Him for walking with me every step of the way.
As they turn the last page, and soak in the words of this book, what do you hope the reader will take away from When Your WAIT Becomes Your WEIGHT?
My greatest desire is that readers will fall in love with Jesus. For some, that may mean that they will fall in love with Him for the very first time. For others, it may mean that their love for Jesus will grow deeper. Being connected with Jesus is about a relationship, not a religion. I pray that readers will love the Person of Christ more than anything else in this world. There’s nothing greater than experiencing God and being encouraged by His Presence.
